Photoshop Image Editing

I used Photoshop to create 3 different photo edits as you will see by the sets of images below.

The Hue and Saturation Edit:

These edits were made by using the create new adjustment layer option.  I was then able to touch on the object who's color I wanted to change and use the sliding bars to change the hue and saturation until I was satisfied with the color change.  In this case I changed the umbrella from red to purple.  Changing the color this way, also adjusts other items in the picture with any red tones, so you correct this by going into the same layer and using the brush tool to paint over anything else that changed, with black.  So in this example I went back over the subjects hands and face, and a few spots in the clouds.  It was pretty easy in this photo to do it this way, however, in a photo with more red, it would have been easier to use another tool.

The Composition Edit:

These edits were made by using the quick selection tool, to select the object, which in this case in my daughter on her first day of school this year (her senior year in high school).  She was then extracted by masking the layer and saving the picture of just her without the background. I then found an image on StoryBlocks of a beach in Aruba.  I used that photo as the background/scenery and added in the extracted image on a new layer, and used the tools to resize and move her into place.  I then finalized by just touching up a few areas using the history brush tool.

The Object removal Edit:

These edits were made by using the lasso selection tool, to select the object I wanted to remove, which in this case was the coffee mug.  The mug was removed and replaced with similar wood background images by using the content aware fill tool. This was a little tricky because you needed to make sure you removed the shadow from the handle side of the cup. and select an from another part of the image that would blend correctly, which meant I had to avoid the separation in the wood boards since the coffee cup was completely between two boards.  Admittedly, it would have been harder still if I had picked the phone, keyboard or notebook to remove instead, as they were not contained within one board.
